Best Photovoltaic (gPV) Fuse Suppliers (2026)

DENCO Fuses publishes this list and ranks itself first. The other entries are real manufacturers whose own websites we checked in September 2026; they are described from their published product pages, not ranked against each other on performance, and none of them reviewed or endorsed this page.

Buyers sourcing gPV photovoltaic fuses usually shortlist DENCO Fuses, Eaton (Bussmann series), Mersen, Littelfuse, SIBA, DF Electric and Siemens. All offer fuses in the gPV category for PV string and array protection. Choose on the fuse format and DC voltage class your combiner or inverter uses, the listing your project requires (IEC 60269-6, UL 248-19 or both), lead time and engineering support.

How this list was put together

We looked for manufacturers whose own websites publish a photovoltaic fuse range in the gPV category, the full-range utilization category for PV defined in the IEC 60269 series. Each site was loaded in September 2026. Where a site blocked automated access, we recorded that and used only text indexed from that manufacturer's own domain.

Each entry summarizes what the manufacturer publishes: formats, DC voltage class and the listings it names. We did not test any product and make no performance comparison between suppliers. DENCO is first because this is DENCO's site; its entry gives buyer-fit reasons, not a technical claim that it beats anyone else.

1. DENCO Fuses, Miami, Florida

Best for: Combiner box builders and EPC buyers who want gPV fuses and matching bases, 600 to 1500 VDC, on a 30-day lead time

DENCO's photovoltaic family is gPV fuses and bases for 600 to 1500 VDC, for solar DC strings and combiner boxes. Buying the fuse and its base together means one supplier confirms that the two match, which is one less check for a combiner builder.

DENCO Fuses, Inc. was incorporated in Florida in 1988 as DenMar Transit Engineering (later DenMar Fuses). Its team has over 100 years of combined experience, solely in manufacturing electrical fuses. DENCO quotes a 30-day lead time on all products (lead times in the industry are commonly longer). Fuses are manufactured in an ISO 9001:2015 certified facility and tested in-house at DENCO's factory lab, with third-party testing at IPH Berlin (Germany) available on client request.

If your project specification calls for a particular listing, such as UL 248-19 for a US installation, state it in the request for quote and DENCO engineering will tell you what evidence is available for the part. The solar RFQ guide lists everything DENCO needs to quote.

  • gPV fuses and bases, 600 to 1500 VDC
  • For PV string and combiner box protection
  • 30-day lead time on all products
  • Solar RFQ guide lists what to send for a quote

What gPV means and why it matters

In the IEC 60269 system, the first letter "g" means full-range breaking capacity: the fuse can interrupt every overcurrent from its minimum melting current up to its breaking capacity. "PV" marks it for photovoltaic duty. A PV array is a current-limited DC source, so faults can be small overcurrents that a general-purpose fuse would not clear cleanly, and DC has no natural current zero to help the arc go out.

IEC 60269-6 gives the supplementary requirements for fuse-links protecting PV strings and PV arrays in circuits up to 1500 V DC. In North America, UL 248-19 covers fuses for PV systems used to protect strings or arrays and their wiring. UL 248-19 says these fuses are not intended to protect downstream inverter components such as capacitors, and its November 2024 revision raised the maximum voltage in its scope. Several manufacturers also cite UL 2579, a UL outline of investigation for photovoltaic fuses, on their product pages.

How to choose a gPV supplier

Most PV fuse problems come from a mismatch between the fuse, its holder and the project specification, not from the fuse itself. Work through these points before comparing prices.

  • Position in the array: string fuses (typically cylindrical) and array or main fuses (typically NH-style blade fuses) are different products.
  • DC voltage class: 1000 VDC and 1500 VDC systems need fuses and holders rated for that class; confirm the holder rating as well as the fuse.
  • Listing: a US project usually needs UL 248-19 (some specifications still cite UL 2579); international projects usually need IEC 60269-6. Check which one your inspector and owner require.
  • Format and holder: 10 x 38, 14 x 51, 10 x 85, 22 x 65 and NH sizes are not interchangeable.
  • Lead time and paperwork: large projects often stall on documentation, so ask early for data sheets, time-current curves and certificates.

What to send for a quote

For any supplier, including DENCO, a PV fuse quote needs the maximum system DC voltage (including open-circuit voltage at the lowest expected temperature), string short-circuit current, number of strings in parallel, required fuse ampere rating if the design has fixed it, fuse format or holder type, whether bases are needed, the applicable standard, ambient temperature and enclosure, and quantity and required-by date. DENCO's solar RFQ guide walks through each item.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use a gG or aR fuse in a PV combiner box?

Not as a substitute for a gPV fuse. gG is a general-purpose category and aR is a short-circuit-only semiconductor category; gPV is the category specifically defined for photovoltaic strings and arrays. Use what the combiner and inverter manufacturers specify.

What is the difference between IEC 60269-6 and UL 248-19?

IEC 60269-6 is the international requirement for gPV fuse-links in PV circuits up to 1500 V DC. UL 248-19 is the North American (UL, CSA and ANCE) standard for PV fuses, tied to the NEC, the Canadian Electrical Code and NOM-001-SEDE. A fuse can be marked to one, both or neither, so check the specific part.

What voltage range do DENCO gPV fuses cover?

DENCO's gPV fuses and bases cover 600 to 1500 VDC. Ratings for a specific part are confirmed with DENCO engineering at quotation.

Limits of this article

  • PV string and array fuse sizing comes from the system design and the applicable installation code; this list does not size protection for any array.
  • Fuse selection must be confirmed against the combiner, inverter and module manufacturers' data and a coordination study.
  • Listings and ratings are taken from each manufacturer's website as of September 2026 and may change; confirm them for the exact part number before specifying.
  • PV conductors stay energized whenever the modules see light. Opening fuse holders under load or near energized DC equipment requires qualified personnel, NFPA 70E PPE and lockout.
