Eaton NXC Capacitor Fuse Replacement: DENCO DNXC

DENCO's DNXC is a full-range, current-limiting capacitor fuse for bus bar to lead mounting, built at the same 8.3, 15.5 and 23 kV voltage classes and the same 10 to 65 A ratings as Eaton's Cooper Power series NXC, with a 50 kA interrupting rating. Find your FA5J, FA6J or FA7J number below and send it to DENCO for a quote.

Eaton sells the NXC under its Cooper Power series, and some distributors list NX parts under Eaton Bussmann, so the same fuse turns up under several names. Whatever the label on the box, the Eaton catalog number on the fuse is what identifies it: FA5J for 8.3 kV, FA6J for 15.5 kV and FA7J for 23 kV, followed by the ampere rating.

DENCO prints DNXC the same way, voltage class then amps: DNXC8, DNXC15 and DNXC23. DENCO manufactures the DNXC, ships on a 30-day lead time, and confirms dimensions and mounting against your installation before quoting.

What the two ranges share

Both published ranges are full-range, current-limiting capacitor fuses rated by continuous current, and the ratings line up row for row:

  • 8.3 kV: 10, 18, 25, 30, 40, 45 and 65 A
  • 15.5 kV: 10, 12, 18, 25, 30, 35 and 43 A
  • 23 kV: 12, 18 and 25 A
  • 50 kA interrupting rating across the range
  • Bus bar to lead mounting, with the fuse mounted on the capacitor bus and the lead to the capacitor terminal
  • Temperature derating above 25°C ambient by the same printed formula, AT = A25 [1 - 0.0065 (T - 25)]

Derating for a hot enclosure

Both catalogs rate the fuse at 25°C and require derating when the maximum ambient is higher. At 55°C, for example, the factor is 1 - 0.0065 × 30 = 0.805, so a 40 A fuse carries 32.2 A. In an enclosed bank on a hot roof, that can move the selection up a size. Tell DENCO the maximum ambient and DENCO engineering will check the rating with you.

Why buyers switch

Frequently asked questions

Is DENCO DNXC a replacement for the Eaton NXC capacitor fuse?

Yes. DENCO makes the DNXC at the same voltage classes (8.3, 15.5 and 23 kV), the same continuous current ratings and the same 50 kA interrupting rating as the Eaton Cooper Power series NXC. Send your FA5J, FA6J or FA7J number and DENCO confirms the part and dimensions before quoting.

Is the NXC a Bussmann or a Cooper Power fuse?

Eaton publishes the NXC under its Cooper Power series. Some distributors list NX parts under Eaton Bussmann. Either way, the FA catalog number on the fuse identifies the rating.

How do I read an FA5J, FA6J or FA7J number?

FA5J is the 8.3 kV NXC, FA6J the 15.5 kV and FA7J the 23 kV. The digits after it are the continuous current in amperes, so FA6J25 is a 15.5 kV, 25 A fuse. The DENCO equivalent at that rating is DNXC15-25.

What lead time does DENCO quote?

DENCO quotes a 30-day lead time on all products.

Send us the number on your fuse

The Eaton catalog number, the quantity and the maximum ambient temperature at the installation are enough to start. DENCO engineering confirms the DENCO part, dimensions and mounting before quoting, and a photograph of the label helps.
